Things to Know Before Joining the Tesla-Savvy Cybercab Investment Waitlist

Considering the Savvy Cybercab Ownership Program? Here is how the costs, ownership structure, nine-step timeline, and investor returns actually work before you join the waitlist.

Things to Know Before Joining the Tesla-Savvy Cybercab Investment Waitlist

Tesla has spent years teasing the Cybercab as the centerpiece of its autonomous ride-hailing future. Now that pre-launch programs are opening, a new question is emerging for investors outside the US: how do you actually get exposure to this without living in America or setting up a US company?

Savvy's Cybercab Ownership Program is one answer. Before joining the waitlist, it's worth understanding exactly how the money, the ownership structure, and the returns work.

The Core Idea: You Own It, Someone Else Runs It

This isn't a crowdfunding play or a fractional-ownership scheme. You're buying an actual Cybercab, titled in your name within Savvy's asset structure.

Savvy takes on everything that would normally make owning a US-based autonomous vehicle impractical for a foreign investor: registration, compliance, insurance, depot management, and enrollment in Tesla's ride-hailing network. In effect, Savvy acts as the operator so you can act purely as the owner.

The catch, and it's a significant one, is that this structure is only open to non-US citizens. If you hold US citizenship, this particular program isn't designed for you.

What It Actually Costs, in Two Stages

The pricing is split into a smaller upfront commitment and a much larger payment later, which matters for anyone budgeting cash flow.

Stage one, $9,500 now. A $5,000 refundable-only-under-specific-conditions deposit to hold your place, plus a $4,500 one-time onboarding fee that Savvy charges per vehicle.

Stage two, $30,000 later. The full Cybercab purchase price, due only once Tesla actually opens bookings and Savvy is able to secure your unit.

Add it up and the total commitment is $34,500. That number doesn't include insurance, ongoing taxes, or the Tesla service fees that come out of your rider revenue once the vehicle is earning.

Where the Waitlist Actually Leads: A Nine-Step Journey From Deposit to Earnings

Joining the waitlist is just the beginning. It sets off a longer process that takes you from reserving your spot to actually owning and earning from a Cybercab. Here's how it unfolds, step by step.

You start by paying your deposit and onboarding fee, which places you on Savvy's priority waitlist. From that point, you simply wait until Tesla opens bookings for the Cybercab program.

Once bookings open, you're given priority access through Savvy's portal, and you pay the full $30,000 vehicle price. Savvy then uses its authorized US legal entity to actually purchase the Cybercab on your behalf, since as a non-US citizen you can't buy it directly yourself. That vehicle is then formally assigned to you as an asset within Savvy's ownership structure, so you hold legal ownership even though the purchase happened through Savvy.

With ownership in place, Savvy registers your Cybercab into Tesla's autonomous ride-hailing program, making it eligible to start picking up riders. From here, Savvy switches into an operating role: managing insurance, compliance, cleaning, and depot logistics on your behalf, so the vehicle can run without you needing to be involved day to day.

Once the Cybercab is active on Tesla's network, it starts generating ride revenue. You can track your earnings at any time through the Savvy Portal.

The key thing to understand is the timeline: there's a real gap between the day you pay your deposit and the day your Cybercab is actually earning money. Bookings need to open, the purchase needs to go through, and registration with Tesla needs to complete before any revenue starts flowing. It's not instant, so it's worth planning around that waiting period rather than expecting immediate returns.

So What Does an Investor Actually Take Home?

This is the number most people care about, and Savvy's illustrative figures put net monthly profit at roughly $2,020 per Cybercab, drawn from an expected income range of $1,700 to $2,900 that Tesla itself has projected.

The path from gross revenue to that number involves several deductions stacking on top of each other. Savvy's illustrative model starts with $5,400 in gross rider revenue per month. Tesla takes the first and largest cut, a network fee of up to 30%, or roughly $1,620, leaving $3,780 in net revenue after Tesla.

From there, Savvy's own costs come out: a $300 management fee, a $120 platform subscription, $500 for commercial AV insurance, another $500 for depot, cleaning, and ops, $130 for energy and charging, $110 set aside for maintenance and tire reserves, and $100 for miscellaneous registration and contingency costs. That adds up to roughly $1,760 in total operating costs. What's left over is the investor's net monthly profit: around $2,020.

In other words, Tesla's fee alone accounts for nearly as much of the deduction as all of Savvy's combined operating costs. It's Tesla, not Savvy, that takes the first and biggest slice before Savvy's own charges even apply. That's useful context to hold alongside the headline $1,700 to $2,900 range.

Eligibility Isn't Just About Citizenship

Being a non-US citizen gets you in the door, but it's not the only requirement. Savvy also expects applicants to pass KYC/AML checks, provide valid identification, meet applicable payment requirements, accept the program's terms, and satisfy Tesla's own US program conditions.

Skipping past this checklist is one of the more common ways interested investors get stuck later in the process.

Should You Join the Waitlist?

This is a rare chance to get in early on one of the most talked-about products in autonomous mobility, before Tesla's Cybercab even reaches the open market. Early-access programs like this typically come with the best positioning: priority booking, first-mover placement, and a head start in a network that only gets more competitive as demand grows.

For non-US citizens looking to diversify into US mobility assets without needing residency or a US business setup, Savvy has effectively removed every operational barrier that would normally stand in the way. You bring the capital, Savvy brings the infrastructure and compliance, and Tesla brings the technology and the network.

With spaces limited and priority access tied to when you join, the investors who reserve their spot now are the ones best positioned to benefit once bookings open.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Cybercab

What is the Tesla Cybercab? The Cybercab is Tesla's purpose-built autonomous ride-hailing vehicle. Unlike a Model 3 or Model Y that a driver can also use personally, the Cybercab is designed from the ground up to operate without a driver, as part of Tesla's autonomous ride network.

Does the Cybercab have a steering wheel or pedals? No. Tesla has designed the Cybercab without a steering wheel or pedals, since it's built to operate exclusively through Tesla's self-driving system rather than being manually driven.

How is the Cybercab different from Tesla's regular robotaxi service? Tesla's broader robotaxi ambitions also apply to its existing personal vehicles, which can theoretically operate autonomously and earn money for owners. The Cybercab, by contrast, is a dedicated vehicle built only for ride-hailing use, with no personal-ownership use case outside that network.

Who actually earns the ride revenue on a Cybercab? Revenue is generated per ride through Tesla's autonomous network, then split between Tesla's network fee and the vehicle owner, minus any operating costs the owner has agreed to.

Is the Cybercab available for individual purchase in the US market yet? Tesla has not opened direct, unrestricted retail sales of the Cybercab to the general public. Bookings and availability are being rolled out in phases, which is part of why waitlist and early-access programs exist in the first place.

Will Cybercabs operate in specific cities only, or nationwide? Tesla has indicated a phased city-by-city rollout for its autonomous ride-hailing network rather than an immediate nationwide launch, consistent with how it has approached other autonomous driving deployments.
